Message Griots Garage, makers of much car detailing goodness, hosts get togethers with how tos, demonstrations, special guests and what not and this weekend they had Pete Brock, designer of the Cobra Daytona and of BRE Datsun racing fame, in town. I'd never been down to their show room but I was expecting an industrial strip mall type deal with some folding chairs, a plate of cookies and some coffee.

Not so much.

I wish I had grabbed a straight through shot, in the rear window all you can see are velocity stacks. Because in a GT40, what's behind you just doesn't matter. Notice the bump in the drivers door to make room for the helmet. These things are even shorter than you imagine.

It's kind of funny to think that on this hand built car this turn signal was probably fished out of a Ford parts bin. KISS. And those old school head lights. Can you imagine blowing down the Mulsanne straight at 200 mph in the dark with naught but those to light the way?

This defroster panel has appeared elsewhere I believe, I think it was a F150.

Lots of power, little safety, sitting in a gas tank sandwich at 160mph. It's amazing the drivers balls fit in the cockpit.

This is Pete Brock. Naturally he's a really cool guy and has an endless amount of interesting stuff to talk about. However he's also such a car fan when his signature line died down he took a break so he could go check out the cars people were driving in. I talked with him little bit about designing the Cobra and etc but it's kind of hard to think of what to ask someone like him. It would have been great to have like an hour to talk with him but it would be great to have a pony too.

Grassroots did a piece on this car a while back (August 09) and it's even more impressive in person. Though personally I would have swapped out the rear drum brakes once the V8 went in. But hey, it only makes 350hp, that's barely moving in Brock terms.

This a replica Cobra (because the 6 originals are worth millions each) built but Superformance. You'll notice the bugs in the grill, he said it's his nice weather daily driver and has around 40,000 miles on it. I forgot to ask how much power it made but it's assumed to be a lot.

The place they've built out of what was an old Coke bottling factory is absolutely amazing.

And of course, OCD heaven.

Complete with stylish things for your abode.

And silly got-to-have-it things like $65 carbon fiber license plate frames and brand name car washing shoes.

This was in their detailing studio. To say immaculate doesn't really capture the sheer clean-ness of this vehicle.

The attention to detail was amazing. Milled aluminum details every where.

There were also quite a few interesting cars that turned up in the parking lot.

But apparently I only took pictures of two of them. Now I have to go mop the drool off my face.
